Why it matters
The license that matters is the one for your project address, not the company’s. A Kansas-office electrician without a KCMO Class I record would need one before pulling a Kansas City, Missouri permit, and a Missouri-office one would need an active county license for participating Johnson County cities.
This cohort is not the market. In the full metro license directory, 56.8% of 331 Kansas-based companies appear only on the Johnson County list (Oct 11, 2026); see the related finding on licensed side by home state.
What this number can’t tell you
- Office side is the address a company lists for itself; crews may work from elsewhere.
- A missing record is a research limit, not a finding that a company is unlicensed.
- Kansas City, Kansas, Clay and Platte county cities and other municipalities license separately and are not counted.
What to do with it
- Check the company record for the license that covers your address before asking for a quote.
- If the record is missing, ask the contractor which license number will go on the permit.
