What we found
Of 58 Kansas City residential electricians whose Google listing we matched with high confidence, 40 hold a rating of 4.8 stars or higher. The median rating is 4.90.
Review counts vary far more than ratings. A quarter of listings have 19 reviews or fewer, the median has 53, and the 75th percentile is 364. 8 listings have fewer than ten reviews; 26 have one hundred or more.
A 5.0 built on six reviews and a 4.9 built on four hundred appear almost identical in search results. They are very different amounts of evidence.

Why it matters
That is why the residential ranking adjusts each rating toward the cohort median until enough reviews accumulate, using a fixed prior weight of 25 reviews. A small sample cannot outrank a large, consistent record on stars alone.
What this number can’t tell you
- These are ratings of Google listings, not inspections of electrical work.
- Multi-trade listings can include HVAC or plumbing reviews.
- Companies without a confidently matched listing are excluded from the denominator.
What to do with it
- Read a rating together with its review count before treating a 5.0 as stronger evidence.
- Ask for recent examples of work like yours; a rating cannot tell you about project fit.
