Why it matters
Kansas City, Missouri and participating Johnson County cities each require their own contractor license before a permit is issued. A company licensed on only one side cannot pull the electrical permit on the other, so the right shortlist depends on the project address.
What this number can’t tell you
- The lists share no ID. Rows are joined only on an identical, unique registered name or where our company record ties both license numbers together, so the share licensed on both sides is a floor.
- Kansas City, Kansas, Clay and Platte county cities, and other municipalities license separately and are not counted.
- A license does not show workmanship, complaints or insurance limits.
What to do with it
- Check which authority issues permits at your project address, then search the directory for the company.
- Ask the contractor which license number will be on the permit.
